How to Get a Website Listed on Major Search Engines for Free
By toni , @empirewoodz
When you have a website,
it's usually a good idea to get your site listed on major search engines. The
Internet is a big place, and with millions of pages for search engines to
index, there is plenty of competition out there. Unless you have a good amount
of start-up cash, it might seem a daunting task to get your website to show up
in search results. Still, by following some simple steps, you can increase your
website's visibility and increase its chances of being listed on major search
engines.
Instructions
o
1
Register your link with the search engines on which you want
your site to appear. All of the large search engines, including Yahoo! and
Google, have a site submission form you can use to add your site to their
databases. However, even after you add your site, it can take weeks for it to
show up in search results. (See Resources for links to site submission forms.)
o
2
Add keyword-rich content to your site. If you have a site about
deep-sea fishing, make sure you add content that includes names of fish that users
might search for as well as fishing tips, equipment, and boats that pertain to
the subject. The more relevant content on your site, the easier it will be for
search engines to find and index it.

3
Add meta-tags to your website. When you add directories or
content, you should be able to "tag" this content with keywords that
are relevant to the topic at hand. When you add these tags, it becomes easier
for search engines to identify and index your content. Note that it is very
important that your tags be directly related to your content, otherwise search
engines will not index your site properly.
Tips & Warnings
·
The more sub-directories and pages your site has, the higher it
will be ranked by search engines, so make sure to build your site at a regular pace.
