How to Generate a Sitemap in Tumblr

Submitting your Tumblr sitemap to search engines will increase search engine traffic to your site.

The Tumblr platform has a built-in sitemap generator that creates a full sitemap for your blog to help search engines more efficiently index your website. After enabling sitemaps for your Tumblr blog, you will need to submit and verify your sitemap with Google, Yahoo and Bing. Verifying your sitemap will provide further search engine optimization benefits for your websites, making it easier for readers to find your website organically through Internet searches.

Instructions

1.Activate sitemap

Sign in to Tumblr and then click the "Settings" icon.

Select the blog you want to enable sitemaps for in the sidebar.

Click the check box beside "Allow search engines to index your blog" and then click "Save." The sitemap is available at "http://example.tumblr.com/sitemap1.xml" where "example" is replaced with your Tumblr address.
2.    Submit to Google

Navigate to Google Webmaster Tools and sign in using your Google account credentials. If you do not have a Google account, click "Sign Up" to register for a free account.

Click "Add a Site," enter your Tumblr address and then click "Continue."

Click the "Alternate Methods" tab, select "HTML Tag" and copy the "<meta name>" HTML tag to your clipboard.

Navigate to Tumblr in a new tab or window and then sign in to your account.

Click the "Settings" icon, select your blog and then click the "Customize" button in the "Theme" section.

Click "Edit HTML," paste the "<meta name>" HTML tag directly below the "<head>" tag, click "Update Preview" and then click "Save."

Return to the Google Webmaster Tools tab or window, click "Verify" and then click "Continue."

Click "Crawl" in the sidebar and then click "Sitemaps."

Click "Add/Test Sitemap," enter "sitemap1.xml" and then click "Submit Sitemap."

3.Submit to Yahoo and Bing

Navigate to Bing Webmaster Tools and sign in using your Microsoft account credentials. If you do not have a Microsoft account, click "Sign Up Now" to register for a free account.

Enter your Tumblr address in the "Add a site" textbox and then click "Add."

Enter "http://example.tumblr.com/sitemap1.xml" in the Sitemap field (replacing "example" with your Tumblr address), your personal information in the "About Me" section, your email alerts preferences in the "Contact Preference" section and then click "Save."

Copy the "<meta name"> tag from the "Option 2" section to your clipboard.

Navigate to Tumblr in a new tab or window and then sign in to your account.

Click the "Settings" icon, select your blog and then click the "Customize" button in the "Theme" section.

Click "Edit HTML," paste the "<meta name>" HTML tag directly below the "<head>" tag, click "Update Preview" and then click "Save."

Return to the Bing Webmaster Tools tab or window and then click "Verify." Sitemaps submitted to Bing are also indexed by the Yahoo search engine.
